There are so many beaches to visit, so many trails to hike, so many activities to choose from. We can only provide a snap shot here. For more details, get a guidebook (we recommend The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman). You can also visit the Discover Kauai website www.kauai-hawaii.com. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong lying on the big open lawn by the beach starring at the swaying palm trees. Dining We love dining at the Plantation Garden Restaurant, right on the property. Dining on the lanai surrounded by the Moir Cactus Garden, hundreds of orchids, and ponds of water-lilies is a memorable experience. Many other excellent restaurants are just steps or a short drive away. We also really enjoy the tropical feel of Keoke’s and Roy’s Poipu Bar and Grill, both are just a short walk across Poipu Rd, The Beach House Restaurant on Lawai Rd. and Soeoka’s Snack Shop in Koloa. Joe’s On The Green is a great outdoor setting for a memorable breakfast. | | Golfing Tee off at the Kiahuna Golf Club is an enjoyable activity. The 18-hole championship course is designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. It is now better than ever under new management. Down the road at the Hyatt is the Po’ipu Golf Club. It is another excellent golfing site. For not-so-serious golfers, the public Kukuiolono Park and Golf Course is only $7 per day (9 holes). Lu’au When King Kamehameha II ruled the islands, lu’au was a feast served to the King and the royalty. Lu’aus offer polynesian food and entertainment. A traditional lu’au normally includes food like kalua pig cooked in an imu (underground oven), laulau, lomi salmon, etc. We have been to a lot of them and quite frankly, we still enjoy ourselves when we go to one. | Kayaking Paddling along the idyllic Wailua River is a good way see tropical flora and fauna along this historic jungle stream. There are many companies offering guided tours or you can rent the kayak and go paddle. There are also some sea tours to take you to see one of the most dramatic coastlines, Na Pali. However, only experienced kayakers are encouraged to sign up as it is a very strenuous paddle. | Snorkeling You can marvel the diversity of colorful fish and sea-life right at the Kiahuna Beach in front of the resort. You can often find sea turtles and humuhumunukunukuapua’a among other interesting sea creatures. You can rent snorkeling equipment at the Beach Activity Hut or for extended use, check out the deals at the Snorkel Bob in Koloa. We also recommend Po'ipu Beach Park and Ke’e Beach. Spa You can spend a day at the Anara Spa at the Hyatt Resort down the Po’ipu Road. They are the best spa on the island providing fabulous full service. You will come out relaxed, refreshed, and pampered. | Surfing and Boogie Boarding Surfing is excellent at the Kiahuna Beach, right outside the reefs. Boogie boarding is great any spot on the same beach depending on your skill level. We have a few boogie boards in each of our condos for your use or you can rent your own boogie boards or surf boards at either the Beach Hut or at the Nukumoi Beach & Surf Shop. | Sunshine Market The Sunshine Market (Farmers’ Market) is the best place to get fresh produce. The one in Koloa meets every Monday at noon at the Ann Knudsen Ball Park. We always load up with strawberry papayas (with red flesh and very sweet) and pineapples there. If you see Bill, the coconut guy, stop and try one of the green coconuts. Tennis The newly renovated Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club is just across the street. Our guests can enjoy a few sets of complementary tennis at one of the ten courts available at the Tennis Club.
